madshaun1984 has wanted to have XMBC Media Center running on his PS3 for several months, but as XBMC needs to have 3D support, this was never possible, however over the past couple of days he decided to compile the CellSDK and compile drivers in order to try and get XBMC running.

 

Today, he succeeded in his work and now has XBMC running on his PS3, it is quite slow, but don’t forget, this is still work in progress and not the finished product, madshaun1984 will keep working at it, if you are still able to install Linux on your PS3 and would like to help madshaun1984 or help towards making XBMC run perfectly on the PS3, give Shaun a shout on IRC, by clicking the chat button at the top of this board, or by PMing him.

Sony не дает хакерам, крякерам и моддерам никаких шансов. Теперь Sony закрыла последнюю вероятную дыру: OtherOS. Будет ли PS3 когда-нибудь взломана?

 

PlayStation 3 до сегодняшнего дня не взломана и является единственной консолью, на которой не запускаются не лицензионные копии игр. В противоположность к Wii или Xbox360, у PS3 высокоприоритетная система защиты. Отключенная функция OtherOS на слим-консолях еще больше препятствует попыткам взлома. С прошивкой 3.21 и в толстых моделях отключена OtherOS, по той же самой причине.

 

PlayStation 3: Механизм защиты.

PlayStation 3 обладает множеством механизмов безопасности. Простыми словами многоуровневая защита похожа на кольца лука. Возможность запускать OtherOS на PS3 существовала только с отдельного раздела HDD. Для защиты от опасных программ Sony соорудила Hypervisor, который препятствует прямому доступу ко всей аппаратной части (Hardware). Целью хакеров является прямой доступ к процессору PS3. В OtherOS защита поделена на несколько «колец», в которой только кольцо «null» имеет прямой доступ к железу. Остальные кольца (ступени защиты) подвержены пристальному наблюдению Гипервизора PS3.

 

PS3-Hypervisor является главной целью атак хакеров. В то время как в OtherOS некоторые эксперименты в контролируемом области безопасности разрешены, GameOS защищена с помощью Root-Key и уникальным для каждой консоли Security-Key. Оба эти ключа находятся не в памяти PS3, а в специально выделенной области одного из SPE, зарезервированном для GameOS. Если изменить прошивку в любой форме, консоль сразу заблокирует ее. Сообщество хакеров ставит целью считать оба ключа через OtherOS, но пока им не удалось обойти Hypervisor консоли. Ключи так же недоступны для мод-чипов и записанных копий игр, т.к., как уже говорилось выше, они надежно лежат в специально отведенной области GameOS‘s SPE.

 

PlayStation 3: Враг Sony Nr. 1

Американский хакер George "GeoHot" Hotz поставил своей целью обойти Hypervisor и соответствующий защитный SPE с его Root- и Security-ключами. Он не ставил целью считать их. В своем блоге он подтвердил, что их считывание невозможно. В тоже время он написал считывание ключей не нужно, т.к. те же у тех же PSP и iPhone коды безопасности остаются неизвестными (но они взломаны). В январе 2010 Геохот открыл эксплойт, с помощью которого он хотел обойти Гипервизор в OtherOS. Что бы перехитрить Гипервизор, он послал электрический импульс железу пс3. «Открытое окно» длилось всего 40 наносекунд и приводило к тому, что консоль постоянно «падала» (зависала), вместо того, что бы дать считать с себя всю память. В понимании проигрывания нелегальных копий игр этот хак абсолютно бесполезен. Единственная его теоретическая польза: для OtherOS можно было бы написать самопальные 3D драйвера под RSX и управлять им.

 

PlayStation 3: Будущее безопасно.

Ни Root-, ни Security-Key не считаны. Sony ответила Geohot‘у удалением OtherOS в прошивке 3.21. Пираты совершенно никак не могут использовать его хак, хотя бы потому, что из OtherOS игры PS3 не запустить. PS3 продолжает быть безопасной и даже записанные Blu-ray фильмы на ней не запускаются. В сети присутствуют образы PS3 игр, но в них отсутствуют нечитаемые данные, которые особым образом прессуются на заводах. При вставке такого диска в PS3 эти данные сразу проверяются с помощью SPU. Если защищенные данные отсутствуют, то такой диск сразу будет отвержен. Через частые апдейты Sony будет и дальше продолжать защищать свою консоль от запуска нелегальных игр.

3rd US Class Action against Sony's disabling of functions

In the USA aggrieved customers submitted a third Class Action on May 5th because of Sony's disabling of Other OS (Linux) on the Playstation 3. This is the first class action also accusing Sony of law violations regarding "Computer Fraud and Abuse" and "False Advertising". Excerpt:

 

"Defendant [sony] essentially presented users with a Hobson's Choice, or a "choice" between two equally undesirable alternatives: users would either lose the ability to use other operating systems, an advertised and important feature, or lose the ability to access online, Blu-ray, and gaming features. On one hand, installing Firmware 3.21 renders the PS3 inoperable for its use a computer; on the other hand, failure to install Firmware 3.21 basically renders a users' PS3 inoperable for its intended purpose as a gaming and Blu-ray Disc console."

1st Class Action lawsuit attorney about the case

In an IGN article, Rebecca Coll, attorney of the first Class Action of April 27th against Sony, gives information about the meaning of the case for US citizens, excerpts:

 

"We are going to ask the court to let us proceed as a nationwide class action. If the court agrees, the court will 'define the class'. Right now, our proposed 'class definition' includes everybody in the country who bought the PS3 from the time of launch until March 27, 2010... If the court adopts this definition, then everyone fitting within that definition would automatically be included in the class action, unless they choose to 'opt out'."

 

Coll explains that notifications of the class action will then be sent to PS3 owners through various ways, like publication in newspapers or through Internet.

"In other words, people technically do not need to do anything to 'sign on' to the lawsuit—if they fit within the class definition, then they are automatically part of it unless they ask to be let out of it after the class is certified."

 

Coll said PS3 users are encouraged to contact the firm to share their experiences. The group is compiling a database of dissatisfied Sony consumers, and will provide status updates as the litigation unfolds. More information is available on their website.

 

"The firm hopes to force Sony to make the Other OS (Linux) feature, together with the other advertised features, available to all purchasers of the PS3 and/or pay refunds to owners."

 

Estimates: According to VGChartz, since the release of the PS3 in November 2006 until September 2009 (release of the PS3 "Slim" without Linux option) Sony sold more than 9.000.000 PS3 consoles with Linux option in America.

Как я уже говорил до этого, эти поциенты владеют 2-3 игрушками (судя по геймертагу), которые либо дали им товарищи, либо шли вместе с консолью. Ессно от них же слышно что "на ps3 нету игр" и прочий бред...

и хотел бы ответить на этот высер с вашего форума бред вы что за всех так говорите ? у меня если что 21 игры + те же гта либерти сити эпизоды не требуют

прошивки 3.21 впрочем как гов3 и хеви рейн я пс3 владею с 2008 года и функция другая ос стоит наравне с онлайном(с мго) и покупками в псн

Some time ago I commented in the forum that GeoHype wasn't going to give us anything, and well as you alreay know there is people for everything so some keep supporting his hypes and his ways, his thing was the ram exploit... everything clear up to that point, the rest is hype.

 

But oh well, there is people that keeps generating hype, that keeps trying to appear interesting, only to be able to participate on a ps2 loader testing (and then more).. but their arguments and interpretation in investigation matters leave a lot to desire... as they pass to be vampire especulators, distortioners and manipulators of the worst kind.

 

But oh well ther are fanathincs who follow them... and as i say.. eventually they will hit straight with reality and that crash will be brutal... especially when their objetive is achieved.. which is to gain a place in a sect and approach the subjects then its convenient to them, erasing and remove at their convinience with the approval of Ferdopa (mod of elotrolado) another generator of this dumb and innecessary hype that carries mislead and null alegations.

 

It is because things like this that I recommend not to visit forums of that type, if they can be called forums.. as they will only confuse and mislead you in a way only guiding you taking advantage of your humild ignorance in the subject... in this case taking advantage of that point to gain a status of who knows what, freakism? As said if you value yourself and have pride do not visit that type of places...

 

Be clear that the scene will not come from linux, you only have to log the way that Sony has taken, eliminating something escential to be able to manipulate the console"all the Shell", when we talk about shell remember, backwards compatibility with ps2, BDjava, Linux.. thinking carefully.. the shell have been removed.

 

The only possible way in which the rest of the platforms have fallen, the reader... there is the key.

 

But nut going back to the subject, Jaicrab Chief of the Hades Team has published in his blog information about the pub, information that geo uses to be able to generate a new pub, information necessary so all of us together can create a pup with a debug vshmain in retail and that way manage things like unblock the ps2 emulator in the ps3, as the EE emulator is in the 40GB models, and even though we do not have 3D acceleration we do count with a functionla emulator for emulators and applications ps2.

 

Posibility to install PKG without passing though the store (sombody said betas??), betas that as you know betatesters can access, and not users.. betas that in their primary state have bugs.. bugs like this.

 

And having Linux functional again.

 

This is one of the examples, there is much more that is unknown and sony has been covering.. but all of us together could bring it to light.

 

You would ask yourself how has geohot done the pup? easy.. the pup is just a container of system data, like drivers, and updates (service pack), this service pack is calculated and reflected in a file that acts as the header pupheader, this pupheader counts with 3 validations:

 

1.Validation of the header (hmac-sha1 key)

 

2.Validation 2 Sections (.tar files)

 

3.Validation 3 PUP

 

The first validation or procedure is the one that uses the hmac key to identify how the pupheade and it's sections are validated , if this one is correct it proceeds to copy from the pen drive to the hdd instantly..its reference place is the fat32 cache area, the cache area acts as a pandora..as it counts with the capacity of storing various state flags, among them the auto_update, or the bootflag

 

The auto_update is the one that forces the reading of the cache where the pup is stored ready for replacing, the bootflag is the one who determines if a partition is initiated in linux, it is copied in flash, specifically in the linux area.

 

As I have mentioned before the key is shown logged in ram in the user region, is there where we can get it dumping with the jaicrab metod, and with the software designed by him..find the key in the dump is an easy task.

 

It is a keyfinder, so it is already prepared for its calculation.

 

With this tool if the key is located, you can calculate the factor and sign the pup again with the content of your choice altered from other versions.

 

I hope that with this it is clear how to create a pup... and how is the scene really...with information, argumentation and tangiable proofs.
